A great book for beginners! My young students are challenged by this, but not overwhelmed. They love that there is a teacher's accompaniment part, which makes them feel very proud in their own playing and is an EXCELLENT exercise for playing together and why it's important to keep the rhythm consistent. It's also been a great way to begin teaching counting out loud (which can be difficult if they are still just learning how to read music). My students also very much enjoy that they hear these tunes in their day-to-day life and can immediately recognize it and say, "I can play that!" The modified (albeit simplified) rhythm of "Ode to Joy" does throw them for a loop though, if they know the actual version well enough to realize that the timing they've heard is different than what's written. However, it's a staple first book once students have learned some of their basic notes.
